Just yesterday, around 4pm I attended an event at Lincoln High School commemerating the 40th Anniversary of MEChA. A close friend told me that they’re be some bands playing for free so I decided to show (even with my problems with Identity-Politiks groups).

Festive Balloons
If you’re planning to throw a real party sometime soon, might I suggest you invest a buck or two for a few balloons? (If you insist -yet again- on just breaking out your Trader Joe’s stash for that predictable spread of cheese n shit n crackers n wine, then you can skip the balloons.) Them gassy rubber orbs always scream festive-ness, they can brighten up anything! For example, this box that reads “No drugs or money kept in box, blood and urine specimens only” is 4 times as cheerful as it would be under normal conditions. Yay! Party!
A few more “specimen” after the jump.
On my way to the Brewery Art Walk. This Saturday and Sunday.

New Mural on the outskirts of Lincoln Heights
On a ride heading home on my 1s & 2s (read:bici) from CSULA I came across this mural at the corner of Valley Blvd and Soto St. It’s located on Valley on the wall that supports the bridge that allows Soto St to pass over, near Lincoln Park.
Some LA Eastside legends, who’s the greatest?
Oscar De La Hoya retires, was he the greatest athlete to ever come out of the Eastside? He certainly was the most popular worldwide, and definitely the most successful financially, He was #2 on the 2007 list of wealthiest athletes, only behind Tiger Woods. De La Hoya made $55 million that year. His Golden Boy Promotions have revolutionized Boxing and have taken it to new heights worldwide.
De La Hoya says he’s retiring from ring
LOS ANGELES — Oscar De La Hoya stopped battling himself Tuesday, deciding after much internal turmoil to retire and end a career in which he won 10 world titles in six divisions and became boxing’s most popular fighter.
He made his announcement at an outdoor plaza across the street from Staples Center, where a 7-foot bronze statue of the 36-year-old Golden Boy stands.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s over,” the East Los Angeles native said before hundreds of fans, including comedian George Lopez and Oscar-nominated actor and former fighter Mickey Rourke. “It’s over inside the ring for me.”
Some other great athletes to come from the Eastside include many characters and in some instances have sad endings, but it also included many groundbreakers in civil and human rights. One thing they all seemed to have in common was a fierce determination and warrior spirit.

- Romeo Void
As a fan of cheesy 80s music (when are we going to Karaoke again Chimatli?) and an avid listener of KROQ2 I often wonder what happened to certain bands when I hear their songs–as I write flame bait comments on blogs or finishing up reports. Continue reading

Dodgers Opening Day
OMG just got back from the most awesome game Dodger game ever!!! This was the biggest crowd at Dodger Stadium for an opener: 57,099.
So my day started at 8am when I was ready to go to Dodger Stadium. My dad and I got there at about 8:30 and we were fifth in line for where our car was.. well there I was so excited that I couldn’t even read my book or study for my test that I have in about a few hours LOL… well walking around seeing the tailgaters it was pretty cool. My dad and I started talking to those around us and then people started parking right next to us, which is a left turn lane, every one was annoyed (well those that were heading to work LOL) so a couple next to us ask if it was ok I told them yes they can leave their car there. Suddenly with those annoyed patrons one women hit another car while trying to make a left, it was pretty funny. Then the cops came trying to be all tough and saying that they were about to tow away the cars parked right next to us.

Parque/Tierra De La Culebra, Highland Park
Over ten years ago I was at the right place at the right time to help set up the Tierra de la Culebra. We would go move out rocks, pull weeds and practice danza Azteca there. One day when it really wasn’t that cloudy, the danza leader said we were going to dance until it rained. It rained within 5 minutes of us dancing hard. I will never forget that day and the magical place it happened. The other day I re-visited and these are some pics I took.

Tricks Are For Kids 101: Jesus Christ! Where The Fuck Have YOU Been?
grey building, grey people, grey food, grey walls. turned 18, see any hope? think you’ll fit, don’t give a shit, forget your past, cuz nothin’ lasts. see some die, see shallow lies. no going back, no going home, it’s all pitch black. (Dave Dictor)
It happened yesterday. Was it a miracle or just another day at the office? I had 1st period conference. I usually catch up with Adriana in the English Dept. or Liz in the textbook room or clarify something with Deans Zanki or Zubyk. But I got called for Period 1 coverage. I’m sent to the R building, to an English class. I walk in and the teacher leaves. There are 8 students in there. It’s a Special Ed class. They are busy looking up some terms from The Odyssey.
