Did you say free?

pistolera

I don’t know of a family or couple not yet affected by La Crisis in one way or another. I may still have a job, but I’m not sure I can afford to continue graduate school with a substantial rise in fees (tuition).

Still, that’s not keeping home all summer. I may not be able to take a fancy vacation like my roommate, but I’m taking advantage of all the free activities the city offers. All you need is lawn chairs, blankets, a cooler/bag to pack up some snacks and you’re set to enjoy the outdoor concert season.

I’ve compiled some of the outdoor series I’ve enjoyed this summer or in the past. I’m sure I’ve missed some as I know surrounding cities (and museums) often plan their own “concert in the park” series. Leave your suggestions in the comments.

Piolin gives gas

Piolin, the excitedly animated morning radio host, loved by many and hated by just as many, picked up the tab at the pump on Monday at Pronto Gas station in Boyle Heights.

The line of cars waiting for their free prize was like the line of people waiting to get their free $1 dollar bill from that priest in Downtown on Christmas – endless and not worth the wait, but entertaining to deliberate what people would do for free things and why.

Win tickets for the roller derby !!!!!

So who wants to go see the Derby Dolls this weekend ? for free ? Yeah that’s what I figured. Now that I have your attention, I am more than happy to give away tickets to the dolls bout this Saturday to LA Eastside readers because I’m a giving kind of guy. They hooked it up with 2 pairs of tickets for both the baby doll brawl and the main bout. You have to be 21 in order to get the tixs because it’s a 21 and only show. Another thing I would like to put out is that if you have gone to a bout, please don’t try to win the tickets. I would much rather have someone who has never experience the Derby Dolls go and have an amazing time like I did the first time I went. So I’m trsuting you guys and putting you on the honor system ok ? Ok puez. So here’s the million dollar question, what is the name of the derby doll I mention on my derby dolls post for being a bad ass jammer ? Send your responce through the contact page and be sure to include your EMAIL so we can hook you up with the information. A big heart felt gracias goes out to the LA Derby Dolls for hooking it up with tickets for their bout this Saturday.

Lakers Celebration in LH

lake1

I drove by to quickly check out the scene but as of around 8:40 pm, the streets of Lincoln Heights were pretty calm, at least compared to the crazy partying that happened when the Lakers won that other time. But there were still a few people walking around, just wanting to celebrate a win of their favorite sports team. It seems people are gathering in East Los and some fools are trying to burn living trees over by the Staples center, but for now LH is just a few cars cruising, honking, celebrating.

Click ahead for a few more pics.

The Los Angeles Derby Dolls

img_5426

Ever since I first got word that there was a roller derby league in Los Angeles a few years back, I embarked on a quest to experience the awe inspiring, fast paced action that is the Los Angeles Derby Dolls. The derby dolls are some of the toughest women I have ever seen because this is a FULL CONTACT sport. They put themselves on the line every game and they give it everything they have with every jam.
