About AlDesmadre

Al Guerrero, Artist/Humorist. Los Angeles, CA. Born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and raised in East Los Angeles from the age of two, Al Guerrero grew up just steps from the famous Chicano strip, Whittier Boulevard. His youth experiences include witnessing and participating in the 1970 Chicano Power demonstrations, cruising cars on Whittier Boulevard, and graduating from Garfield High School. After dropping out of UCLA (with honors), he drew upon his lifelong passion for art and cartooning and pursued a career in graphic arts. During this period, he traveled overseas and found artistic inspiration from the masterworks he discovered within the European Art Museums. His career blossomed when he was eventually hired by the Walt Disney Company in 1995, where he worked as a creative artist for a number of years. Although the artistic work was rewarding, he eventually grew weary & disillusioned with the bureaucracy of the entertainment business, and left to work briefly in the educational field. His credits include producing a feature film with actor, Conrad Brooks of Ed Wood fame, founding and performing with the Punk Rock group “The Psychocats” at numerous L.A. & Hollywood venues during the 1990’s, and in 1999 he founded and created a hell-bent puppet cabaret show aptly named: “The Puppets from Hell”. As a long time active member of the Los Angeles Cacophony Society, Al “Quaeda”, as he was known, was involved in countless Cacophony Society pranks and events throughout the city. He also produced the “Incredibly Strange Cinema” cult film series as well as themed events such as the now infamous “Pornothon Movie Nights” and the satirical “Mexican Night: Noche De Tequila & Putas” shows at local nightclub venues. Throughout his art career, he has exhibited his canvas paintings at various local galleries, and has also written & illustrated numerous comic strips and Graphic Novel stories. Today, he lives in Silver Lake, California and works as a freelance artist and writer with numerous multi-media projects under his belt and in the works. His personal hobbies include collecting vintage toys and comic books, cinema history and Los Angeles City history. Contact: alguerrero@earthlink.net Al Guerrero P.O. 1. Call me a dippy hippy, but a dad doing that to his son. That seems kind of harsh. It can also point to why kid was rebelling in the first place. You are supposed to be able to trust your parents. I would not trust this man if he were my father. I would lie and hide things from this man and he were my father and I would get very good at it.

Yes I think people should discipline their children, but this is humiliation. You want your kids to do the right thing, because it’s the right thing, not because of fear of humiliation by authority figures.

  2. Let me be clear: Dennis Baltimore, Sr is a schmuck.

Rather than humiliating his son in a fashion that will only make his son weak with mental scars or frighteningly fearful with hate, perhaps Dennis Baltimore, Sr. would have done better to not have bred offspring. But as that has long since come to pass, perhaps Dennis Baltimore, Sr might set his sights on firms such as Clear Channel, a national firm whose propensity for legal graffiti is endorsed by the very politicians whose theft and misuse of Dennis Baltimore, Sr’s taxes are far worse: http://www.laweekly.com/2008-04-24/news/billboards-gone-wild/3
Granted, kids need to understand the way the world works. But if this is the way that man will treat his son, then said “father” should understand that this real world is sure to take him to task in a far harsher fashion.

Dennis Baltimore, Jr might feel “really mad, confused and. . . dumb,” but the truly dumb one is Dennis Baltimore, Jr’s dad. perhaps he should show some backbone and fight the real power, rather than beat down his only son in a fashion that may as well be the fourth life of Grange Copeland.

  3. Let me add there is more going on with this dad and son, this is a kid of obvious African descent in a traditionally white (though this is changing) neighborhood and his dad is trying to show the white people how he’s not like those “other” black people. That’s what’s going on here, I just want to add that in there. There is way more going on here than what is on the surface.

Sounds like someone still believes in eugenics… 😉

  5. I’m not in agreement with the whole not having kids thing, that’s BusTard’s thing. And his anti kids stance goes across all parts of society. I think everyone should make their own choice. This whole no one should should have kids thing that goes through some parts of the environmental movement I find odd. I like existing. I think kids are cool.

I do think the not having kids movement tends to be a bit too focused on people who uh look like me…though I don’t think many people who say these things get the history of the whole anti reproduction movement.

I think if you think BusTard’s statement was tinged with racialism you should just say that, to me this is a legit question. Don’t pull punches with your thoughts.

  6. Urbanista,

Please read The Third Life of Grange Copeland before you continue to implicitly accuse me of racialism. My allusion to that book makes clear my intent. It also employs citation, a convention about which you seem to be intentionally ignorant.

As a white guy who took the time and pain to make sure I will never bear children—and let me state that in a world populated by idiots, I have never wished to breed—I am curious to know what you have to state about my refusal to contribute my fine scottish genes to the white world.

And while you are it at, feel free to stop being a schmuck as well.

  7. Whoa that turned ugly fast. Personally speaking, I’ve been down that humiliating road and like Browne wrote, it only made realize that I have to be better at not getting caught. That “eye for an eye” thing never solves anything nowadays. At the sametime idiot kids like the one in the picture need to be humiliated because they had it coming. I’m positive that the father resorted to the “special” punishment because he’s exausted all of his options. If that kid does develop any kind of mental scars, it won’t be from walking around with a sign but from all the other crap his parents are putting him through. Sometimes I wonder how I’m able to do what I do considering all the crap my parents put me through…sigh…

  8. “Para Que Aprendas, Cabron!” as a tagline is pretty f’n funny. I can see plenty of uncles/aunts busting that one out to the little ones when they really f’d up. they turned out fine.

Well the enviro. groups (aka the conservationist wing) do take some conservative stances at times…and for many years took so much of the funding away from urban communities. Crap, the Sierra Club circa 1990s had a lot of infighting on immigration (prop 187).

  9. While I am an environmentalist, I really in general am not part of any group. Sierra Club don’t like them. The vegan groups, don’t really like them either. Everytime people get into a group the first thing they do is decide who they are going to hate. Environmental groups in general are very conservative. They don’t see humans as part of the environment and I really can’t look at the environment without looking at people and economics and everything else.

I believe if everyone treated everyone else nicely and made sure that everyone’s basic needs where met then they would naturally be treat the earth better and animals better. It’s not that I put human first, but to me humans are the key, if all humans don’t have a good quality of life then we can’t move to the second step. You can’t save the planet while people are still starving and the answer is killing them off or stopping them from having babies, the answer is to tell the first world countries to stop being such greedy assholes and throwing their trash everywhere and to share some of that money.

Yeah so going back to treating humans nice. Treat your kids nice. Positive reinforcement is a very good solution to a misbehaving kid and positive reinforcement while it sometimes takes longer to work it will stick alot better once it does start working and your life will be so much more pleasant than thinking of creative ways to be mean to your kid.

Oops sorry. I meant to say in regards to humans the answer is NOT killing them off…yeah that was a kind of a big cocktail error….

  11. It never fails to amaze me how people who have never had kids, don’t have kids now, and never will have kids in the future, are constantly giving advice on how people should raise their kids!!

  12. That kid is stupid and burnt but I guess I would be more rebellious then him cus heck no I would not be wearing not stupid sign, I would of been runaway out the house peace I am ghost! lol

  13. al, funny picture. hopefully, the kid in it realizes how funny it is someday.

and i’m not sure how vegans ended up getting brought up, but GO VEGANS! i have all these pro-vegan arguments, but due to the prior humiliation, have this urge to hide them.

  14. For those of you concerned or think this was too harsh, this kid graduates in two weeks and ever since this incident has been on the honor roll with a 3.2 and higher grade point average. I commend this dad for taking the time to show his son consequences. I’m sure he’d be more embarrassed if he had to walk around in an orange prison jumpsuit. It’s amazing how all the soft parents who let their kids have privacy and disrespect them and others, end up killing someone, themselves or in prison but when a parents takes action to help a child learn that life has consequences he or she is considered harsh. WOW. Our society is backward.
