It’s that time of the year again folks !! Time to dress up as everyday people and add the word “sexy” to it to make it a Halloween costume. At the same time, it also means that Dia de los Muertos is just around the corner as well. And as has been the tradition for the last 2 years, I compiled a list of Dia de los Muertos events happing in L.A. starting this weekend, continuing through November 5th.
I made the first post over at LA Taco because they asked ever so nicely. And since I was already working on the post, I figured what the hey. But rather than copy and paste all that info on here again, and upload a BUTT LOAD of pics, again, I’d figure I’d link that post and share some Eastside Dia de los Muertos highlights with ya’ll. My top pics if you will.Â
Self Help Graphics Dia de los Muertos workshops and events
As always, Self Help Graphics and Art is thee place for DOD every year, starting with the weekly, Saturday workshops, the art and the long standing tradition of being the longest running DOD celebration in Los Angeles.
And of course the place to be on 11-2 is Self Help. The night is going to start with two processions starting at 5 p.m. One at Mariachi Plaza and the other starting at Union Station via the goldline. As always, Self Help has an amazing line of performers, vendors, food and lots of stuff that the entire family can enjoy. The majority of it free !!! It all goes down from 5 to 11 p.m. AT THEIR NEW LOCATION IN BOYLE HEIGHTS.
El Velorio is a fundraiser for El Buen Pastor Mural Project. Aside from having an altar, face painting, vendors, food and drinks, Metalachi will be performing !! If you don’t know who these head banging Mariachis are, check out this video and you’ll be sold. 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Muertomania is combines two of the things I love, DOD and lucha libre !! With lucha libre inspired art, luchadors getting it on through out the day, arts, vendors, food etc. this is a can’t miss event over at Solidarity Ink in Lincoln Heights. Events goes on from noon to 10 p.m.
