South Central Farms comes to Northeast LA

Apologies for the poor quality of the flyer. I carried it around folded in my bag before I actually read it.

I was pleased to discover this flyer at Figueroa Produce this past week. It’s an idea other independent grocers would do well to emulate: team up with local growers and farmers to deliver low cost produce to urban areas. I know we already have farmers markets but I think this idea might be easier to implement on a smaller scale.
I’ll try a box next week and get back to you with the results.

  1. I saw this at Figueroa Produce a few weeks ago but instead they were selling individual vegetables. It’s cool that they got this going. Let me know how those veggies turn out. I’m always down to try a veggie I haven’t worked with before.

  2. would love to hear how it goes for you. my friend and i have been wanted to share a box for a while now but unfortunately always seemed to forget the Thursday deadline.

  3. Hey proyecto jardin is starting up the same thing in Boyle Heights !!!! It’s the same exact thing you mention here, but for people in BH. Fresh veggies are awesome and supporting local is always a plus

  4. we did something similar a couple of years back but the problem was you get lots off crappy veggies in the winter. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to use several turnips or parsnips at a time… The greens were nice though.

  5. to eprobert:

I make beet & parsnip salad! Taken from the Veganomicon Cookbook. Pretty-pretty-pretty good (too much “Curb Your Enthusiasm viewership, obviously).

I’m kale crazy too. Put it in everything.
