We interviewed the RHS athletic director, head coach, and principal along with their counterparts from GHS. All denied the rumors. What is true is that this is the last year of Garfield and Roosevelt being close the only game in town for high schools in East LA and Boyle Heights. Next year Mendez LC students will not be playing sports at Roosevelt, and Esteban Torres HS near Cesar Chavez and Eastern will be taking around 1,600 students from Garfield and an additional 400 from Roosevelt. Also, Garfield may be seeing some big changes in management because of the LAUSD School Choice Resolution. However, I'm sure for those lucky enough to be staying at the two historic schools, the competition and accompanying tradition will remain just as strong. Solid reporting, Random.
