Resurrection of the “Resurrection of the Green Planet” Mural

“No tienen valor” are the words that an older gentleman muttered to Ernesto de la Loza as he was working on restoring his mural on Cesar Chavez Ave. and Breed. For the last few months, idiots tagged up the mural pretty bad and Loza was called up by the store to come and fix it up. I was on my way home from school and I saw him painting.

Loza has been doing murals since the ’70s and he loves his work. He’s passionate about what he does because he considers himself and artist of the people. He said that it’s a sad shame the current state murals in L.A. are. Whether they’re tagged up or whitewashed by the city. He also has his opinions about all the graff writers calling themselves muralist. More than anything, Loza wants to preserve as many murals as he can for community and its people. Murals are part of the culture here in East Los or anywhere for that matter. It helps people realize and remember who they are and where they come from.Loza has murals in all of L.A. including Echo Park and another mural just down the street on First street and St. Louis here in Boyle Heights. He’s going to be working on this mural for the next two weeks so stop by and say to one of the greatest muralist in all of Los Angeles.

  1. I hope that the mural can get that chemical protective coating treatment that makes it easier to wash off any graffiti. It’s an added cost, but worth it in the long run. It would be great if the City & Cultural affairs could cover the costs. Local paint co’s sometimes sponsor such projects.

  2. I’m glad to see this mural hasn’t been forgotten, the last time I was there it was in a pretty dismal state. Thanks for the update ERH!
